“You’ve got lots of jackets made by me, but if you pay close attention, you’ll see that none of them are the same,” Eduardo says as he helps me into his latest three-piece blue suit in Super 150’s by Holland & Sherry. This is not such a bold statement to make, bearing in mind his penchant for experimentation, his in-depth knowledge of which cut suits each individual client and fabric. The inspiration for this masterpiece came from an old photo of the Totò, aka Principe Antonio De Curtis (see photo below). The noted Italian actor is snapped in a three-quarter pose as he lights a cigarette. This flattering angle highlights an ample, rounded sleeve, set off by an armhole with pronounced but never vulgar rollino, which lends the perfect backdrop to a low peak lapel, seeing as, in turn, the neckline of the jacket worn by Totò is low cut. Although this gentlemanly attire is actually double-breasted, we decide to adapt it to a single-breast with a double-breasted shawl collar waistcoat. The armhole will be lower than is strictly the norm and the sleeve wider to give more shape to the sleevehead itself. The photos of the finished item will be published soon.
