Catching up with Federico Ceschi a SantaCroce

About a year and a half ago, just when The Bespoke Dudes was getting started, I contacted Count Federico Ceschi a Santa Croce to get to know him and to visit his atelier. A few weeks ago, I returned to say hello and to talk to him about the new fabrics for the season and the new projects in the pipeline.

    More - Altro

NH had appeared in the Wall Street Journal a few months earlier and (after, sic!) in the Corriere della Sera with articles full of well-deserved commendations. NH continues to be a solid, thoroughbred Milanese atelier. Two workshops, one located with the showroom (where the cutting and finishing phase takes place) and another located outside of Milan, employ a total of 25 workers who take care of both the fabrication of the jacket and trousers.

Any NH jacket, even a winter one, is always tailored without an inner lining and has no pence from top to bottom (as opposed to the Napolitano jacket). As Federico explains, “the fewer the cuts, the more valuable" the jacket. The jacket’s sleeve is usually similar to that of "a shirt,” the lapel is in the shape of a “bocca di pesce” (literally, a "fish mouth") while the shoulder can be natural or padded, depending on the customer’s physique. Additionally, the shoulder is never saddled, but normal, and is stitched from the bottom upwards.

As indicated in the previous interview, Federico used to mail his customers a brochure entitled, “The Dress Code," to their homes, providing his clientele with information about new fabrics and valuable advice as to how to match clothing. This season, Federico has become more oriented to the web and has an online newsletter. Here, he proposes a single fabric, which this winter is an elegant glen plaid (also known as the “Prince of Wales check”) in dark teal (“verde petrolio”) Drapers cashmere wool, perfect for low temperatures, but simultaneously made to be lightweight.
