    The Roman Chapter: FG Albertelli

A chat with the owners Domenico D'Angelo and Luca Luchetti

I meet the two partners, Domenico D’Angelo and Luca Luchetti, in their shop in Piazza del Parlamento, Rome. Twelve years ago, they purchased the Albertelli brand from the owner Piero, the celebrated Roman shirt-maker who is still operating today in the capital city. Today, Albertelli offers a range of ready-made shirts alongside genuine bespoke items manufactured in their in-house laboratory. The overall ready-made look and the store atmosphere is not exactly what a bespoke tailoring enthusiast expects. On the up side, though, a great deal of research goes into the selection of the fabrics and the measurements, witnessed by the application of the Storm System by Loro Piano logo, also found on the top-end flannels and cashmeres, in order to transform classic pieces from the gentleman’s wardrobe into genuine outdoor garments ideal for the urbanite.

In the in-house laboratory, the shirts are cut by hand, without resorting to the use of machinery. The made-to-measure PG Albertelli shirts have armholes, buttonholes and shoulders stitched by hand, as is the staggered stitching between the sleeve and the flank. The collar is generally fused, but they also make them with the famous webbed interfacing on request. The average cost of a ready-to-wear shirt is €180, which rises to as much as €350 in the case of made-to-measure items. Their made-to-measure coats, on the other hand, are crafted in the province of Naples, with only some stitchings made in the roman workshop, and with a starting price of €1900. Pictured in the photos below are the steps to cut and embroider the buttonholes on the sleeves of a jacket.

    Bespoke hugs,
    Fabio
