The concept: My grandfather Gennaro, pioneer of the Neapolitan craftsmanship, was the inventor of the Neapolitan jacket. Mariano, my father, represents the leading figure of the Neapolitan tailoring, and today I try to give a fresh and more modern take to the company. Our tailor’s shop is modern, addressed to the client; we tout almost sixty thousands metres of vintage fabrics, which are an unequalled range. Fifty years ago tourists were travelling to Naples from Rome or Florence just to buy an unstructured Rubinacci jacket. We don't impose any style, because it is a personal matter, but we graft the Neapolitan DNA in our suits and we try to detect the personality of the customer in order to propose something fitting his needs. Our customers don't need Rubinacci to dress, but they use our suits to express themselves; an example can be a "pajamas smoking", with regimental tie fabric, exclusively made for a customer who will wear it on the New Year's Eve.Inside our jackets there's no brand label inside, because our customers don't need to show off, the tailor is a private matter; we just have a label inside a pocket, showing the name of the owner, date of creation and a serial number linked to 50 cm of the same fabric used to make the suit, saved for any possible alteration.A solid black blazer here becomes unique because it is lined with a vintage foulard picturing a scene of gentlemen grooming in a bathroom, dating back to those old times when in the restrooms people used to dress, in addition to wash. Moreover, Rubinacci invests a lot on young people: twenty out of our forty tailors are 18 or 22 years old. Every single customer is served by the same tailor, which cuts all his suits, in order to obtain a sort of homogeneity in the uneveness, in the irregularity of the hand-stitching.

When I was 19, after finishing high school in Naples, I went to Kilgour, a well-known tailor’s shop in Savile Row, London, with the will of learning the secrets of the renowned British tailoring and why it was not communicating with the Continental School. Back in Italy, I tried to merge, within Rubinacci, these two schools, the British style and the Neapolitan construction.

Average age of the customers? 30 years old
Età media dei clienti? 30 anni

Time to cut a suit? An average of fourtyfive / fifty working hours and four / six weeks to deliver the suit to the customer.

How would you describe your own style? I define myself as a critic, a pioneer, an artist trying everything on, in order to propose more consciously something to a customer. Rubinacci's style is undefined. In the menswear industry, nothing else can be invented, you can only draw from the past to modernize it. Besides, i'm the booth of my tailor's shop, my customers trust me, but I would not like them to dress like me. I can only propose something, but i never recommend a particular style.

Your first memory related to menswear? When I was 13, i used to go to my father tailor's shop in Via Filangieri, Napoli to have my  jeans pockets changed with tweed fabrics.

Any Source of inspiration? I get inspiration everywhere, in the street, around me, even in the snowboarders or the surfers with their fluo colours. I like spotting details and reinterpret them my way. I never design my collections in a fixed period of the year and, as soos as I have an idea, I simply wrtie it and create a new garment.

A Style tip? When it comes to menswear, never listen to others, but just to yourself. Wearing what makes you feel at ease, observe a lot and grab details around.
