Hamilton Watches & Nastri d'Argento

On the occasion of the 70th edition of the Nastri d’Argento, I flew to Taormina with Hamilton, the Swiss watch brand under the umbrella of the Swatch Group and sponsor of the film festival organised by the Cinema Journalists Union. The award ceremony took place, as usual, inside the suggestive ancient ruins of the epic Greek theatre of Taormina, where Gabriele Mainetti picked up the award for his feature debut Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot (see photo below with Mainetti and the main character of the movie, Claudio Santamaria). Perfetti Sconosciuti, a movie by Paolo Genovese, was awarded the prize for the best comedy; the best storyline award went to Io e Lei, a love story between two women, shot before Italy announced its decision to approve civil unions.

During my stay I tried out two models by Hamilton: the Khaki Field and the Intramatic. The first has an automatic movement, sapphire glass and a diameter of 40 mm; despite its dark dial, I would strongly recommend it for informal meetings in the morning, as its beige canvas or leather strap lends itself perfectly to these occasions. For the award ceremony in the evening, I wore the Intramatic, which also runs with an automatic movement, but has a slightly bigger diameter, 42 mm – ideal for those with large wrists. The reasons behind my choice were basically two: the black leather strap and the muted dial with the date at six, something I find to be elegant and refined.
