    Bespoke Experience at CHIAIA-Napoli - Part 2

Dear Dudes, today we will see the creation of the papermodel and the cut of fabric and canvas, as done at CHIAIA-Napoli Sartoria.

Many don't know that some tailors usually start from a preset paper model according to the size of the customer, then they edit it, depending on the peculiarities of the case. This is not a true bespoke! At CHIAIA-Napoli, for example, the paper model is created from zero for every single customer and doesn't have to do with preset sizes. Below you may see my paper model for a double-breasted jacket.

    The cut - Il taglio

A patch pocket being sketched free-hand. The pockets of this suit will differ from all the others of the upcoming suits.

According to the paper model, the fabric is marked by a chalck, in order to be cut.

Gennaro always leaves more fabric then needed, to be able to work freely on the fabric afterwards.

Cut if the canvas. Using the fabric as a model, the canvas is marked by the chalck for the cut. At CHIAIA-Napoli neither horsehair nor camel hair are used for the jackets. They just use a very light canvas to ensure a jacket as light as a shirt.

"Loose stitches" step: the two fronts are put on top of each other and the chalk mark is marked by white threads (called "intrillanti" in Neapolitan dialect) so not to lose the mark if the chalk falls off of the fabric.

    The result - Il risultato

In the upcoming post we will see the next steps of the manufacture, among which the working of the canvas after the cut. Stay tuned, Dudes!
Stay tuned, Dudes!
